“Spiritual intelligence” (SQ) is often treated as a vibe—calmness, kindness, “being evolved.” This paper treats SQ as a hard-edged capacity: the ability to keep judgment online under activation. When fear, shame, humiliation, or longing rises, many people don’t merely reason worse; they undergo a regime shift in which coherence becomes a survival function and meaning becomes a sedative. Under that load, IQ turns into rationalization, EQ into persuasion, and even Structural Intelligence (SI) into a weapon—competence conscripted by panic. SQ names the stabilizing faculty that prevents this takeover. Framed structurally, SQ functions as an internal Hard Floor: the place where reality can still interrupt you, even when the nervous system demands a finished story.
