This research aims to understand how and why people in Coimbatore are slowly beginning to shift their petrol vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs). It examines the practical issues of cost, confidence, and convenience, as well as the government’s initiative in the form of the 100 percent vehicle tax waiver in Tamil Nadu and the PM E-DRIVE initiative, which is making EVs more accessible to people. The results indicate that the extremely low operating costs of EVs, at only ₹0.50 to ₹0.70 per kilometer, are the main factors that are encouraging people to buy EVs, despite the concerns about the battery life and replacement costs. The increasing number of fast-charging points on busy roads such as Avinashi Road and R.S. Puram Road has also helped alleviate range anxiety. This research indicates that EVs are slowly becoming a rational and environmentally sound option for commuting in Coimbatore.
