Evaluation of the psychosocial impact on law enforcement personnel involved in mass incident interventions

This study explores the psychosocial effects of mass incident interventions on law enforcement personnel. Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 Turkish police officers, and thematic analysis was applied to the data. The findings highlight key challenges, including coordination difficulties, psychological pressure, and the emotional toll of repeated exposure to crises. Officers reported heightened stress, safety concerns, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Over time, coping strategies developed, yet prolonged exposure led to compassion fatigue and professional desensitization. The study underscores the need for structured psychological support and resilience-building training to mitigate long-term impacts.
