Land reform initiatives in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been implemented intermittently since with varying degrees of success. The research employs participatory action research methods involving community consultations, interviews with stakeholders, and analysis of official records to assess the impact of land reform policies on socio-economic conditions in DRC's rural areas. A key finding is that the distribution of land among small-scale farmers has led to a significant increase in agricultural productivity by 30% compared to pre-reform levels, though disparities persist between different ethnic groups and regions. The study concludes that while land reform policies have had some positive impacts on rural livelihoods, sustained efforts are needed to address long-standing socio-economic inequalities. To enhance the effectiveness of future land reform initiatives, it is recommended that policymakers consider implementing targeted support programmes for historically marginalized groups and regions.
