Between 17th and 28th November 2025 Oxford Archaeology carried out a trial trench evaluation on land at Wick Farm, Merton, Norfolk. A total of forty-three 30m trenches were opened across the investigation area. Two small pits produced small quantities of Bronze Age pottery. Prehistoric pottery was also recovered from two linear ditches, with another ditch producing a small quantity of Roman pottery and a fourth corresponding with a post-medieval field boundary. Nine undated ditches and six undated pits were also identified across the site. Finds were restricted to very small quantities of prehistoric and Roman pottery, as well as a small amount of animal bone, ceramic building material and a post-medieval/modern iron cutlery handle. Associated environmental remains were scarce and poorly preserved, limited to occasional charred cereal grains and weed seeds.
