The metaphorical language of politicians' speeches in the context of translation

The relevance of this article lies in the fact that it raises the question of the appropriateness of including various figurative expressions and precedent texts in the political speeches of the heads of state. The research material consists of the statements made by the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin during his interviews and speeches before Russian and foreign media. This issue is examined in the context of translating metaphors and precedent texts into foreign languages (English and Spanish) in terms of their effectiveness for implementing the communicative strategy of a political leader. The study also addresses the most effective ways of translating expressive means used in the political discourse of the head of state in terms of their understanding by foreign audiences. The focus of this work is on the lexico-semantic features of political discourse related to the imagery of the Russian president's speech, which pose challenges when translating into English and Spanish. The research material includes statements by V.V. Putin that contain metaphors, elements of irony, proverbs, and fragments of conversational speech. The main methods of research are component analysis and contextual analysis. The conducted study has shown that the use of metaphors, paremias, and elements of conversational speech by leading world leaders, including the Russian president, has today become an integral part of Russian and foreign political discourse. The expressive means employed in V.V. Putin's speeches attract the attention of audiences in Russia and abroad, making his statements memorable and often turning them into quotes. The Russian leader uses a wide range of expressive means in his speech, which sharply contrasts with the stylistics of official public speeches and poses difficulties for translators. At the same time, the vivid metaphorical nature of the president's speeches elicits a positive response among Russians while often leading to misunderstanding and even criticism from foreign audiences.
