Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects that Organizational citizenship behavior. Design/methodology/approach A structured questionnaire is developed with 20 questions and data are collected from 359 employees for Study 1 and 297 managers for Study 2, primarily from high-tech industries in India. The collected data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Findings The findings of the study provide insights into how companies can foster commitment to reduce turnover and improve performance. It also indicates how organizational commitment (OrC) acts as a buffer, reducing the power of organizational citizenship behavior-organization (OCB-O) on turnover purpose and the link between OCB-O and organizational effectiveness (OrE). Originality/value This research underwent an empirical investigation to examine the effects of organizational citizenship behavior-individual and OCB-O on turnover intention and OrE, with OrC acting as a moderating element.
