The desk-based research and impact assessment were undertaken in accordance with the relevant guidance and in line with the SWARCH HIA methodology3. The site and surrounding assets were visited on 6th October 2025 by F. Balmond and 22nd October 2025 by B. Morris. Photographs of the site of the proposed turbine were taken to and from the heritage assets are included in this report. A geophysical survey undertaken prior to the erection of the extant turbine identified geophysical anomalies associated with Lidcott Mine, including an area of disturbed ground immediately to the west, and probable lode-back or prospection pits to the north. The archaeological potential of the site, excluding the remains of the 19th century mine, appears to be low. The existing track and cable run would be reused to minimise the impact of the proposed turbine. Whilst there are a number of designated heritage assets identified within this landscape with intervisibility to the proposed turbine, the nature of the landscape, and the effect of screening, means that the number of assets where an appreciable adverse effect on significance as a result of the proposed development are limited. Due to the number of operational or consented turbines in the local area, there will be a cumulative effect. Overall, the effect of repowering of this turbine on the historic environment is adjudged to be Negligible Adverse. Given the landuse history of the site, the results of the geophysical survey, and groundworks associated with the extant turbine it is unlikely that archaeological monitoring of the works here would return any meaningful results. No further works are recommended.
