Assessment of the impact of proposed works on the listed building The proposals seek to remove some 19th century extensions to the rear of the building No 8 and return parts of the building to a residential use as originally constructed. There are a small number of historic features remaining and the loss of historic fabric is minimal and consequently, bringing the building back into beneficial use will outweigh any impact caused by the proposed changes. Externally very little change is proposed so these changes are not harmful. Internally there are few historic features remaining and no changes to these are proposed. The plan form is altered particularly on the ground floor. On the upper floors a small amount of historic fabric will be lost but this is clearly outweighed by ensuring the building is useable in the long term at a time when the nature of retail is changing.
