This study examines school-based waste recycling programmes in Lagos, Nigeria, focusing on their impact on student environmental awareness and behaviour. A mixed methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data from surveys with qualitative insights from focus group discussions and interviews among students and educators. In the survey, it was found that 72% of participants reported increased knowledge about waste management after participating in recycling programmes, while thematic analysis revealed themes such as improved community participation and teacher support as key drivers of programme success. School-based waste recycling programmes significantly bolstered student environmental awareness and behaviour in Lagos. Future interventions should focus on sustaining these positive outcomes through sustained educational efforts and community engagement.
