Abstract Organic chemistry is an exciting field of research that has inspired many researchers to build complex molecules in a simple way. Over the years, chemists have focused on developing greener and more sustainable methods that have minimal impact on the environment. In this quest, our laboratory has been working on multi-component, metal-free, organocatalyzed and C-H functionalization methodologies for the synthesis of important organic scaffolds. Visible light, which is naturally abundant, is also utilized to carry out various reactions. Recently, we have ventured into the area of catalyst-free reactions, which is attractive to organic chemists as it is operationally simple and cost-effective and makes the purification of products much easier.
