Afro-Linguistics in Ethiopia: A Scholarly Review of Contemporary African Language Structures

Afro-Linguistics is a field that explores language structures within Africa, with Ethiopia being a significant region for linguistic research due to its diverse ethnic groups and historical languages. The review employs an interpretive approach, analysing existing literature from various Ethiopian academic sources to provide a comprehensive overview of current research trends. A notable finding is the prevalence of agglutinative languages in certain regions of Ethiopia, such as Amharic and Tigrinya, with a significant proportion showing complex morphological patterns that are not fully explored by previous studies. The review highlights the need for further empirical research to better understand these linguistic complexities and their cultural contexts.
