E-Learning Platforms in Early Childhood Education: Parental Involvement and Development Outcomes in South African Informal Settlements

Early childhood education in South African informal settlements faces challenges such as limited resources and access to technology. A mixed-methods approach including surveys of parents (N=200) and assessments of children's literacy levels was employed. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and regression models to identify patterns. Parental involvement via E-learning platforms significantly improved early literacy skills, with a mean improvement of 15% in Grade 1 children who used these platforms compared to those without access. The study highlights the importance of parental engagement in educational technology for early childhood development in challenging contexts. Further research should explore long-term impacts and scalability of E-learning platforms within similar communities, with a focus on sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
