The archaeological monitoring and recording comprised the observation by a competent archaeologist of all intrusive groundworks associated with the proposed development. These comprised works associated with: " a haul road (Trench 3) " bases for electric sub-stations (Trenches 22-26) " the machine excavation of cable trenches (Trenches 1-2, 4-21 and 27-66). Between November 2023 and May 2024, Cotswold Archaeology carried out archaeological monitoring and recording during groundworks associated with the installation of a solar farm at Elms Farm, Newbold Pacey, Warwickshire. A pit and three ditches were identified. An abraded sherd of Roman pottery was recovered from the subsoil horizon of a trench in the eastern part of the site, adjacent to an area of probable settlement activity recorded by a preceding geophysical survey. Two sherds of pottery of broad medieval date were recovered from the fill of a ditch identified towards the south-east of the site. One post-medieval pit and an undated ditch were recorded cutting the subsoil in the south-eastern and western parts of the site, respectively. A post-medieval or modern agricultural plough furrow was also recorded in the north-western part of the site.
