District hospitals in Ghana play a crucial role in healthcare delivery but face significant challenges related to operational efficiency. A comprehensive meta-analysis approach was employed, leveraging existing datasets from multiple districts across Ghana. Panel data regression models were used to estimate efficiency scores, with robust standard errors accounting for potential heterogeneity among districts. The analysis revealed a significant variation in hospital efficiency levels (ranging from 50% to 80%) among different regions of Ghana, indicating the need for tailored interventions to enhance performance. This study underscores the importance of adopting consistent and standardised methods for evaluating district hospital systems. It provides empirical evidence that can inform policy decisions aimed at improving healthcare access and quality in Ghana. Policy makers are encouraged to implement stratified management strategies based on regional efficiencies, alongside targeted training programmes for staff, to address identified inefficiencies effectively.
