The AMR comprised the observation by a competent archaeologist of all intrusive groundworks associated with the proposed development. These works comprised the machine excavation of foundation and service trenches. Archaeological features/deposits were investigated, planned and recorded. Deposits were assessed for their palaeoenvironmental potential, but no deposits were identified that required sampling. In September 2024, Cotswold Archaeology carried out a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording during groundworks associated with development at 29 East St Helen Street, Abingdon-On-Thames, Oxfordshire. The earliest deposits encountered were buried soils of a post-medieval or modern date, indicative of the sites use as a garden during these periods. Two linear cuts, the fills of which contained modern artefactual material, were also identified and these may relate to the removal of a former outbuilding building, shed or similar.
