The fieldwork followed the methodology set out within the WSI (Nexus Heritage 2013). The area was stripped by a 14-tonne tracked excavator under constant supervision by a qualified archaeologist. The excavation area was centred upon an area identified by the 2012 evaluation (CA 2012) as being of archaeological interest. There was provision for the excavation area to be increased in size if significant archaeological features extended beyond the boundaries. The work revealed the presence of a Middle Bronze Age burnt-mound, ditch, fire pit and troughs, as well as medieval ridge-and-furrow ploughing and a post-medieval boundary ditch. No artefactual material pre-dating the post-medieval period was recovered.
