In this third installment of my three-part series, I introduce secondary music teachers to three more songs within Ganggangsullae (pronounced gong-gong-sue-le), a Korean folk tradition that integrates song, dance, and games. Part I explored “Intro Ganggangsullae,” while Part II added “Sonchigi Balchigi” (Hand and Foot Clapping), “Deokseokmolja” (Straw Mat Rolling), and “Gosari Ggeokja” (Fernbrake Picking). Part III completes the series with “Cheongeo Yeokja” (Tying and Untying Herrings), “Daemun Noli” (Gatekeeper Play), and “Kkorittagi” (Tail Catching). Lesson activities throughout the series align with the National Core Arts Standards (i.e., Connecting, Performing, Responding, and Creating) and emphasize participatory, hands-on learning that fosters engagement and cultural understanding in secondary classrooms.
