The legal status of refugees and asylum seekers in Tanzania is a complex issue within East Africa's socio-legal landscape. A socio-legal analysis was conducted by reviewing existing laws, court decisions, and relevant international agreements to assess the adequacy of current legislation. The analysis revealed a significant disparity between legal provisions and practical implementation, particularly in areas related to identification procedures and access to social services. Current legal frameworks lack comprehensive protection for refugees and asylum seekers, leading to inadequate support systems and procedural inefficiencies. Recommendations include enhancing the legal framework to ensure fairer identification processes and improved access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
