This lightning talk was delivered as part of the 'Evolving DMPs: Smart, active, integrated, useful!' workshop organised by the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure at the 20th International Digital Curation Conference. Abstract: The DMP Tool is undergoing a complete rebuild to enhance functionality and bring in machine-actionable capabilities to data management plans (DMPs). This talk will briefly review some significant updates to the tool that are intended to make DMPs more dynamic and integrated into the research lifecycle, including: - A revamped API that allows for a broader range of connections to other research data management software - Automated suggestions of matching to published outputs to help connect works in the scholarly record - Project-level hierarchy to encourage linking related DMPs (including pre- and post-award documents) together - Ability to upload DMPs created elsewhere to add machine-actionable features Along with greater accessibility and usability, we hope these updates encourage greater adoption of best practice DMPs that integrate with other systems and works and connect more easily to other infrastructure. Speaker biography: Becky Grady lives in Los Angeles, California and is a Senior Product Manager at the California Digital Library (CDL), part of the University of California Office of the President. She works as the service manager for the DMP Tool, a free, open-source platform that helps researchers create data management plans (DMPs) for grant applications. Her team is currently rebuilding the tool to add machine-actionable features, including AI-assisted DMP drafting, integration with campus research systems, and stronger connections to the scholarly ecosystem. Before joining CDL, Becky earned her PhD in social psychology from UC Irvine and worked in user experience research and product management in the video game industry.
