Oral traditions play a significant role in preserving historical narratives within Southern African communities. In Rwanda, these traditions are an integral part of cultural identity and community cohesion. This study employs a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with quantitative analysis of traditional storytelling patterns. Data collection includes structured interviews with community elders and semi-structured interviews with younger participants to gather both historical narratives and contemporary interpretations. Analysis revealed that oral traditions are not only preserved but also evolving, maintaining core themes while incorporating modern elements such as social media and technological advancements. Oral traditions in Rwanda serve as a dynamic repository of history, influencing cultural practices and identity across generations. Educational programmes should incorporate the study of oral traditions to promote cultural preservation and understanding among younger generations. oral tradition, historical source, community cohesion, Rwanda
