This study examines secondary school systems in South Africa to assess their effectiveness in mitigating environmental risks. A quasi-experimental design was employed, incorporating pre- and post-assessments to measure changes in environmental awareness among students. Statistical analysis was conducted using a linear regression model to estimate the impact of school interventions on risk reduction outcomes. The statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between enhanced environmental education programmes and improved student understanding of environmental risks (β = 0. 85, p < 0. 01). This study highlights the effectiveness of specific educational strategies in reducing students' risk perception towards environmental issues. Investment should be directed towards expanding these successful programmes to other schools and across different regions within South Africa.
