This Data Descriptor focuses on methodological evaluation of municipal infrastructure assets systems in Ethiopia, aiming to measure efficiency gains through a randomized field trial. A randomized controlled trial was conducted across 10 municipalities, with data collected on CERs over two years. Mixed-effects regression models were employed to analyse the impact of different management practices on efficiency gains. Mixed-effects regression analysis revealed that a specific municipal asset management strategy (e. g. , regular maintenance schedules) led to an average cost-effectiveness ratio improvement of 15% compared to baseline conditions, with robust standard errors indicating significant differences in efficiency gains. The randomized field trial methodology provided insights into the effectiveness of various asset management strategies and contributed to a more efficient municipal infrastructure system in Ethiopia. Based on findings, municipalities are recommended to implement regular maintenance schedules for key assets to achieve cost-effectiveness ratio improvements. Future studies should consider scaling up this approach across larger geographical areas. The maintenance outcome was modelled as Y₈ₓ=₀+₁X₈ₓ+uᵢ+₈ₓ, with robustness checked using heteroskedasticity-consistent errors.
