ABSTRACT A study has been undertaken to compare the visual acuity with three different flexible hydrophilic lenses to the best visual acuity that could be achieved with spectacles. The properties and dimensions of the lenses were varied. A second study is made to compare the astigmatism on the front surface of the flexible lens on the eye to that amount measured on the cornea without a contact lens. The report of excellent comfort with this material, combined with the disturbing reports of unacceptable vision, prompted these investigations.
