ABSTRACT This is a lecture given to memorialize the series of achievements of The Indians Optometric Association, to indicate some features of professionalism in general, and to discuss the role of optometry—particularly regarding such things as reading disability. The fact that optometery deals with vision as a performance of the total person is stressed.
