Gender dynamics have been underexplored in African political transitions, despite their critical role in shaping power structures and development outcomes. Data was collected through qualitative interviews with policymakers, civil society representatives, and academic experts. A mixed-methods approach incorporating quantitative data on women's representation in politics was also employed. The analysis reveals a significant underrepresentation of women at all levels of political decision-making, with only 20% of elected officials being female. While Mozambique has made progress in gender equality legislation, the actual implementation and impact are limited, highlighting the need for further policy reforms to ensure equitable participation. Recommendations include enhancing women's political leadership training programmes and implementing stronger accountability measures within governmental institutions.
