In the linguistic consciousness of any nation with a long history, the image of the hero carries deep cultural meaning and a system of values specific to that nation. In this context, the study of texts and discourse related to the image of the hero becomes particularly significant. The subject of the study is the features of national character embodied in the image of the hero in the Russian and Chinese linguistic worldview. The object of the study is the image of the hero presented in the Chinese and Russian news media discourse. The main goal of the research is to identify and compare the features of national character embodied in the image of the hero in Russian and Chinese news discourse. In the present study, using contextual analysis and content analysis, behavioral and distinctive features of the hero's image in news texts on the topic of "hero" have been examined; statistical methods have been used to analyze and compare national characters reflecting the image of the hero in Russian and Chinese linguistic consciousness. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the highlighting of the special significance of the concept of "hero" in national culture and national consciousness; the identification of the main features of the national character of the image of the hero in Russian and Chinese news discourse; the investigation of the differences between Russian and Chinese cultures reflected in language through the spiritual core of the hero's image. It has been established that the most obvious features of the national character of the Russian people embodied in the image of the hero in news discourse are: 1) "to show courage", 2) "to love one's homeland", 3) "not to be afraid to sacrifice one's life." The most characteristic features of the Chinese people embodied in the image of the hero are: 1) "to protect the people", 2) "not to be afraid to sacrifice one's life", 3) "to possess strong will." It is concluded that the national character embodied in the image of the hero is fully reflected in news discourse. In various cultural contexts and systems of social values, the national character reflected in the images of Russian and Chinese heroes has both differences and similarities, which fully demonstrates the feasibility of linguistic and cultural exchange between the two countries.
