As part of its 110th anniversary project, the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) launched the Mechanical Engineering Heritage initiative in 2007. This program aims to preserve and honor historically significant mechanical engineering artifacts that have contributed to the advancement of Japanese society and industry. Gaining an understanding of these heritage items offers valuable insights into the evolution of mechanical technology and its societal impact. In 2024, the following six items were certified: Japan's first pressurized oil stove (Type SB); the lightweight electric car with an arc-shaped body (Tokyu 5000 Series); the electro-mechanical calculator (FACOM128B); silk spinning machinery from the Faculty of Textile Science and Technology at Shinshu University; the miniature digital printer for electronic calculators (EP-101); and the Suzulight SS. This presentation outlines the historical and technological significance of each item, highlighting their contributions to the development of mechanical engineering in Japan.
