This article examines legal consciousness as a complex social-legal phenomenon that underpins the stability of the legal order and the internal acceptance of law under changing legal reality. Based on historical-legal and doctrinal analysis, it systematizes key stages in the scholarly understanding of legal consciousness within Russian legal thought and clarifies approaches to its structure, including the correlation of legal knowledge, evaluative attitudes, and legal dispositions. The study argues that legal consciousness functions as a linkage between normative prescriptions and lawful conduct, shaping the effectiveness of law enforcement, perceptions of legality, and trust in legal institutions. Special attention is given to contemporary manifestations of legal consciousness in areas of complex regulation and dispute resolution, where legal certainty, the proper balance between public interest and private-law mechanisms, and respect for the limits of legally expressed party consent become particularly significant. The article concludes that the concept of legal consciousness retains strong methodological value for explaining the risks of its deformation and for fostering stable orientations of lawful behavior.
