Laser ultrasonics utilizes laser irradiation to generate ultrasonic waves in a solid from its surface. In this study, nondestructive imaging is performed using multipoint laser irradiations and an array probe for detection. The imaging algorithm is based on the synthetic aperture focusing technique (SAFT), utilizing the delay-and-sum method. The SAFT enhances the signal-to-noise ratio by increasing the number of ultrasonic transmission and receiving points. Here, fine-pitch laser irradiation via multipoint scanning can raise the image resolution of the SAFT, and its performance is verified using artificial flaws in metal.
