D5.2. Blueprint for the establishment of 'RURALITIES Hubs'

This document, D5.2 - Blueprint for the Establishment of ‘RURALITIES Hubs’, has been prepared as part of the RURALITIES project, a collaborative initiative co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No. 101060876. The project also benefits from the support of UKRI through grant numbers 10051963 (The Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership) and 10050988 (Earthwatch Europe) for UK-based participants. These grants enable the inclusion of key UK stakeholders in the project’s multi-national framework. The RURALITIES project aims to address the challenges faced by rural areas by fostering climate-smart, ecosystem-enhancing, and knowledge-driven rural expertise and training centers. Within this framework, Work Package 5 (WP5) plays a crucial role in engaging, connecting, and empowering a broad range of actors within the rural innovation ecosystem. It seeks to address the environmental, economic, social, and societal nexus, referred to as the RURALITIES Nexus (RURNex). WP5’s objective is to bridge gaps between stakeholders by creating collaborative platforms that encourage participation across various sectors, from agriculture to education and governance. A key aspect of WP5’s activities is the implementation of engagement strategies within six Simplified Rural Socio-Ecological Systems (SIMSES), which serve as pilot demonstration areas for testing and refining the project’s methodologies. These SIMSES areas are diverse in terms of geography, socio-economic conditions, and environmental challenges, making them ideal environments for the development of adaptable, scalable solutions for rural innovation.
