The digitization of Health systems – spanning both contemporary and traditional medicine (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy) – creates new opportunities for integrated care, large-scale research, and public health intelligence. Yet, this transformation also raises complex challenges around privacy, data security, cybersecurity, and protection of personal and community knowledge. This narrative review examines these ethical and regulatory concerns through the lens of India’s evolving digital health governance ecosystem. Drawing on key national policies and standards, it proposes a structured governance and control blueprint for platforms such as the Ayush Grid. The review also compares India’s approach with global data protection models to identify sector-specific risks and regulatory gaps. The review concludes with implementable recommendations for policymakers, program managers, and digital health vendors to ensure that the digitization of Ayush systems advances innovation while upholding ethical, legal, and social accountability.
