A Study on Women Contribution towards Economy: Past, Present and Future Anuja Indrajeet Jadhav Assistant Professor in Business Management, Sadguru Gadage Maharaj College, Karad, Maharashtra Dr. Sandhya Dnyandeo Shendge Assistant Professor in Business Management, Sadguru Gadage Maharaj College, Karad, Maharashtra Abstract The role of women in the economy has undergone significant transformation over time, reflecting broader social, cultural, and economic changes. Historically, women contributed to economic activities primarily through unpaid household labor, agriculture, handicrafts, and family-based enterprises, although their contributions often remained unrecognized in formal economic records. In traditional societies, patriarchal norms limited women’s access to education, property ownership, and employment opportunities, thereby restricting their economic participation. However, the modern era has witnessed remarkable progress in women’s economic empowerment due to improved educational access, policy initiatives, and globalization-driven labor market opportunities. Today, women actively participate in diverse sectors including entrepreneurship, services, technology, governance, and finance. Government programs, digital platforms, and financial inclusion initiatives have further strengthened women’s participation in economic development. Despite these advancements, gender wage gaps, occupational segregation, and unequal access to resources persist in many regions. Understanding the historical and contemporary roles of women is essential for promoting inclusive growth and sustainable economic development.
