The NEP 2020 is a policy document focusing on the growth of education system qualitatively with the prime thought of focusing on equity, sustainability, affordability, access and accountability in education system. It beams light on all most every sector of education along with teacher education. It was a much awaited document as with the advancement of thoughts and technology society has changed a lot and so its demand too. Now the teachers are expected to be more apt and quick along with experiential thought process. So, Education is considered as a fundamental for achieving full human potential, developing an equitable for the civilization of society, and promoting national development. It is well known fact that a well-defined, visionary and futuristic education policy is a must for every country because education is the key driver of economic and social progress. Taking into account their respective traditions and culture, different countries have adopted varied education systems. Recently Government of India announced its New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), which intended to transform our nation sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high quality education to all. It is a progressive step, which will bring about a paradigm shift India’s education system and will transform it into a modern, progressive, and equitable. This conceptual research article is based on NEP 2020 focuses on Higher Education (HE). Researcher in this paper highlights on various policies announced in the higher education system and compare them with the currently adopted system. Various innovations and predicted implications of NEP 2020 on the Indian higher education system along with its merits are discussed. Finally, some suggestions are proposed for its effective implementation towards achieving its objectives.
