This review highlights the significant role of traditional herbal medicines, particularly those from India, in managing diabetes mellitus, a widespread global health concern. With approximately 60% of the world's population utilizing plant-derived medicines, herbal remedies are gaining popularity due to their natural origin and fewer side effects. The review aims to identify effective Indian herbal drugs and their active chemical compounds responsible for lowering blood glucose levels. It emphasizes that while no permanent cure for diabetes currently exists, natural plant-based resources offer a rich source for controlling and treating the disorder and its complications. Ultimately, this work encourages further research into the anti-diabetic potential of medicinal plants and explores the importance of traditional herbaland polyherbal formulations for diabetes management.
