The article examines the patterns of structural transformation of the Russian agricultural sector in the context of increasing macroeconomic instability and external constraints. The relevance of the study is due to the need to assess the sustainability of the industry in the context of market volatility, climate risks and institutional changes. The aim of the work is to identify the factors determining the sustainable development of agriculture, as well as to substantiate the mechanisms of its adaptation to external shocks. The study revealed structural imbalances between large and small business forms, as well as significant regional differentiation of performance indicators and investment activity. It has been established that the sustainability of the industry is largely determined by access to financial and credit resources, the level of technological modernization and the quality of the institutional environment. The role of investment and credit mechanisms as key tools for smoothing industry risks and maintaining the reproductive cycle is substantiated. The scientific novelty of the work lies in a comprehensive interpretation of the sustainability factors of the agricultural sector, taking into account their sectoral and regional interconnectedness. The practical significance of the results lies in the possibility of their use in the development of state agrarian policy measures and programs for the spatial development of rural areas.
