ABSTRACT: We investigate the theoretical origin of the exponential effective gravitational coupling Gₑ (ρ) = GN exp (-ρ/ρc) in CCEGA modified gravity. This coupling explains the neutron star mass gap by allowing maximum masses of Mₘax = 4. 26 M_☉ instead of GR's 2. 33 M_☉, consistent with PSR J0952-0607. We attempt rigorous derivation from 5D brane-world Einstein equations. We document both forward approaches (assuming standard bulk sources) and inverse approaches (requiring regularity constraint). We find that while the exponential form cannot be uniquely derived from standard 5D sources, it is phenomenologically consistent with observations and produces testable predictions: gravitational wave echoes at ~14 ms detectable by Einstein Telescope in 2035. HONEST ASSESSMENT: This paper explicitly addresses the question: "Is the exponential coupling fundamental or phenomenological? " Our answer: phenomenological. CCEGA represents an effective theory that works at neutron star scales. Its exact 5D origin remains an open question. FALSIFICATION PATH: Einstein Telescope (2035) will search for GW echoes. If found: CCEGA is supported. If not: GR is confirmed and CCEGA is falsified. This is honest science. We present a model that works, explain why, acknowledge limitations, and propose definitive tests. STATUS: Exploratory investigation into fundamental questions. Not a derivation, but a rigorous assessment of what we know and what remains unknown.
