An archaeological watching brief was commissioned by Bam Nuttall on behalf of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks in advance of substation reinforcement works at Beauly Substation. Previous archaeological investigations around the substation had identified a suite of prehistoric structures including roundhouses, field boundaries and clearance cairns within the development area. The fieldwork was carried out between 5th-16th December 2022. The basal remains of a linear alignment of stony cairns or mounds were identified. Although poorly preserved and truncated by previous vegetation removal, they are thought to have formed part of the features of a prehistoric field system related to the wider settlement at Balblair Wood.
