An archaeological watching brief was carried out at Culchunaig Steading, Westhill, during site clearance works ahead of the conversion of the steading into a dwelling house. Fieldwork was carried out in March 2022 and November 2023 alongside a metal-detecting survey. Vegetation and topsoil were cleared from areas around the external walls of the steading and within the inner courtyard. Due to the minimal nature of excavations, no archaeological features were encountered. A low stone wall from within the courtyard was removed. A small area was excavated to the northwest of the steading for the installation of septic tanks, but no archaeological features were present. Metal-detecting was carried out across all areas of groundworks and recovered numerous modern or post-medieval iron objects but no significant finds.
