The excavation of eight trial trenches was archaeologically monitored. TR1-6 were located along the west and south perimeter wall to asses the extent of the existing footings. TR7 was excavated to asses the extent of a modern basement identified in TR5. TR8 was located centrally in the site area to asses archaeological survival. Archaeology was recorded along the western perimeter in TR1-TR5, it comprised dump layers and structural brick work dating to the post-medieval period, below these levels deposits dated to the Roman period were recorded. TR5 was located at the southern perimeter and comprised a modern backfilled basement which had removed any archaeology. TR7 was excavated to the north of TR5 to assess whether the basement continued to the north, which it did. TR8 was larger than the other trenches and was located centrally in the site area. It contained natural gravel at 10.4mOD overlain by archaeological deposits dating to the Roman period, these were truncated by a north-south aligned brick foundation.
