A surface hazard on the site of the former Goldsitch Colliery was reported to the Coal Authority in August 2001. As remedial works might result in disturbance to the archaeological remains comprising the shaft itself and any associated features, ARCUS undertook measured survey and a watching brief at Goldsitch Moss on behalf of the Coal Authority. This work examined physical remains of an eighteenth - nineteenth century colliery. The survey identified a series of coal shafts, and the watching brief examined an early nineteenth century ventilation shaft, monitoring work to make the shaft safe following an earlier collapse.
