Keevill Heritage Ltd carried out an archaeological watching brief at 3 Haven Close, Dorchester on Thames in March 2022 on behalf of the owners. Foundation trenches for two new extensions were observed, one replacing an existing conservatory on the south side of the property, and the other on its north side. Four archaeological features were observed. Two appeared to be ditches, possibly the same one running though both extensions. The remaining two (again, one in each extension) were large pits, perhaps originally dug to quarry sand / gravel. All the features contained Roman pottery: only small amounts were found in the two ditches, but both pits contained substantial assemblages which are likely to have been deliberate dumps of domestic refuse. The pottery mostly dates to the late 1st century AD, and the features must therefore have been backfilled at about that time.
