This historical review traces the evolution of ultraviolet radiation therapy in dermatology, from ancient heliotherapy practices in Egypt and India to modern targeted modalities such as psoralen–ultraviolet A (PUVA) therapy and narrowband ultraviolet B. For millennia, sunlight remained the cornerstone of managing certain cutaneous diseases. This article highlights pivotal innovations, from Finsen’s Nobel Prize–winning lamp to contemporary extracorporeal photopheresis, and underscores ultraviolet radiation therapy’s enduring role in the treatment of inflammatory and immune-mediated skin diseases.
