This interview is part of the “Caste in Canada” oral history project. “Caste in Canada” is comprised of interviews with nineteen Canadians of Dalit background, documenting their histories, experiences, and understanding of the implications of caste in Canada. The subject of this interview, Sutey Ahir is a former active member of DS4-Dalit Shoshit Samaj Sangharash Samati. He has continued his activism in Canada. Sutey is also a founder and former President of the Indian Buddhist Society and advocates for including caste as a protected category in Canada’s discrimination policies. This interview includes two promotional videos. In this interview, Sutey Ahir discusses his advocacy work related to caste discrimination and immigration to Canada.
