This interview is part of the “Caste in Canada” oral history project. “Caste in Canada” comprises interviews with nineteen Canadians of Dalit background, documenting their histories, experiences, and understanding of the implications of caste in Canada. The subject of this interview, Kamlesh Ahir, was born in Nakodar city, Punjab, India. She studied political science at Guru Nanak Dev University. Kamlesh remains active in the Ambedkar International Social Reform Organization (AISRO) and boldly promotes the “Jai Bhim” slogan in the media. This interview with Kamlesh Ahir is divided into three segments and includes two promotional videos. In the interview, Kamlesh Ahir discusses caste discrimination in relation to female identity and explains Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s activism.
