Individuals with high sensory processing sensitivity are reported to be more vulnerable to psychological problems, but this has not been sufficiently examined in anxiety disorders. This study examined the mediating effect of emotional reactivity on the correlation between sensory processing sensitivity and psychological resilience in individuals diagnosed with anxiety disorders. The sample comprised 130 participants diagnosed with anxiety disorders aged between 18 and 65 (mean age 34.18 ± 11.62), including 124 females (95.4%) and 6 males (4.6%) at a state hospital in Turkey. The participants completed the Personal Information Form, Sensory Processing Sensitivity Scale, Emotional Reactivity Scale, and Psychological Resilience Scale. The data were analyzed through Pearson correlation and structural equation modeling analysis. The study participants reported high sensory processing sensitivity and above-average levels of emotional reactivity, while their psychological resilience was at a moderate level. Sensory processing sensitivity was positively associated with emotional reactivity and negatively associated with psychological resilience. Emotional reactivity was also negatively associated with psychological resilience. Emotional reactivity was fully mediated in the correlation between sensory processing sensitivity and psychological resilience. These findings may guide the development of psychosocial interventions targeting emotional reactivity and psychological resilience in the treatment of anxiety disorders.
