All work was carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1992. Health and Safety considerations were of paramount importance in conducting all fieldwork. Safe working practices always overrode archaeological considerations. In addition to the above standard practices, Covid 19 restrictions were still in place and extra protocols to reduce transmission: as were advised by the government, were observed at all times. All excavation was undertaken under constant archaeological supervision and archaeological recording was consistent with that set out in the approved WSI: WB/TK/19. The owner was responsible for securing the information on any services within the ground disturbance areas and took all reasonable precautions to avoid damage to such services. This report details the findings of an Archaeological Watching Brief undertaken during levelling and trench excavations for footings needed for a new build garage and house extensions. A planning condition restraint was attached to the proposed development due to its position within an area known for its archaeological potential. The watching brief revealed several masonry features that were interpreted as phases of walls, in addition the work uncovered two stone-lined and covered drainage channels. As sociated finds assemblages found in relation to each feature, and their stratigraphic sequencing, made it reasonable to suggest a medieval date for the majority of the structural remains.
