In December 1994, ARCUS was contracted to carry out the excavation of two sections of dry-stone walling at Roystone Grange in Derbyshire. 5 metre The investigation was required by the Peak Park Joint Planning Board following a request by the tenant farmer (Mr. Cooper) to rebuild the walls. All the walls on Peak Park land at Roystone have a covenant placed on them which allows the Peak Park to request archaeological excavation prior to rebuilding. Using the wall typology created by Hodges and Wildgoose the excavations revealed the foundations of Wall 44 to have a foundation construction consistent with that of Type 2 (post-medieval) walls. Wall 45 had foundations consistent with Type 4 (Romano-British) walls. This wall would have been part of the farm enclosures associated with Roman settlement and farming at Roystone.
