The assessment methods used, followed that detailed in Standard and Guidance for historic environment desk-based assessment, CIFA 2017, updated 2020. This Desk-Based Assessment has been prepared at the request of the client in order to better inform a proposed planning application to develop a property, The Wild Hare at Tintern, which is a Grade II listed Building. A desk-based assessment is a compilation of accessible information about the property, within its setting, and is required to assess the potential for disturbance to archaeological resources during the proposed development. The assessment was able to establish a connection between a part of the complex and the C16th wire working industry at Tintern. The change of use for the property as an Inn appears to date to 1878 with further development in the 1930s, at which point the complex utilised reclaimed ponds.
