Background: Psychological factors during conception and pregnancy significantly influence maternal and fetal health. Modern biomedical research indicates that maternal stress, anxiety, and depression can alter hormonal balance and affect pregnancy outcomes. Ayurveda emphasizes maternal mental well-being through concepts such as Garbhiṇī Paricaryā and Garbha Saṃskāra. Objective: To evaluate the impact of maternal psychological states on fetal development and to explore their interpretation through integrative Ayurvedic and modern scientific perspectives. Methods: This review is based on classical Ayurvedic literature and contemporary scientific evidence. It analyzes the role of maternal stress in neuroendocrine regulation, epigenetic modifications, and fetal programming. Ayurvedic guidelines, including Garbhiṇī Paricaryā and Garbha Saṃskāra, are examined alongside modern stress-management approaches. Key Findings: Maternal psychological stress is associated with dysregulation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and increased cortisol levels, which may lead to preterm birth, low birth weight, and altered neurodevelopment. Ayurvedic interventions promote mental stability, proper nutrition, and balanced lifestyle practices, supporting optimal fetal growth. Conclusion: An integrative approach combining Ayurvedic principles with modern psychological care can enhance maternal well-being and improve fetal outcomes.
